The Man Behind The Plan
I'm Donovan Powell — DP Fit, Hickory, NC. Athlete first, coach second, and honest with you the whole way through.
From Sports To Coaching
I got into training because of sports. Going into high school, I needed to become stronger and bigger — so I lifted. As time went on, I could see a huge benefit from it, and I knew I wanted to make this my work.
Because everything you do in your daily life becomes a whole lot easier with strength behind it. Taking out the trash. Moving bigger items around. Being able to just move in general. I believe training with weights leads to longevity, and I want everyone to have that.
Hard Training, Done With Care
I train my clients hard, but I do it with care. I push them so that they become the best version of themselves. If I see a client slacking off, I will get on them to go harder — because for one, you're paying me to make you become better. And for two, your life gets a whole lot better when you train hard and consistently.
I've been an athlete, so I've performed both strength and hypertrophy training. Whether you want to get powerlifting-strong or leaner and more muscular, I'm open to any sort of training — as long as we do it right.
What I do differently than other trainers is that I make sure my client is doing the exercise correctly with amazing form. Before even upping the weight, I make sure they're performing the exercise properly — so that not only can they progress over time properly, they will not get hurt as well.— Donovan Powell
What Football Taught Me About Coaching
I'm a football guy. My favorite team is the Redskins — has and always will be them. Football is where I learned that you don't win on talent alone. You win with a game plan, with reps, and with people who push you past what you'd do on your own.
That's how I coach. Your program is the game plan. Every session is a rep that stacks. And I'm the one pushing you through the fourth quarter when your legs are gone and the old you would quit. Show up, do the work, and let the results come in their season — that's how everything hard gets done, in the gym and everywhere else.
Want that kind of coaching? See how I train or get in touch.
